So we had to go to a final round after the double jeopardy round as there was a 3-way tie - the Bank of Anderson, the M&Ms (the table I was on) and the Spell Doctors (a physician group for the hospital in town). We all had 23 points after the double jeopardy round (the round where all points are doubled). Round robin type of giving the words - one team spells the word, if correct, they have to spell another word. If they miss it, the next team has to spell it and so on - Anyway - we went about rhree times around with all three groups missing the same words, et cetera. We tied for second with the Spell Doctors. We did give the bank a "run for their money" - lol. I'll post some pictures later - We had tons of fun and we've all been asked to participate on the same table again next year - so I'll be there - E :)

May I have the origin of the word, please?
Yep, it's the local library's annual spelling bee. I'll be participating in the Starburst Spelling Bee once again. This year, I'll be at the same Friends of the Library table, the M&M's (we had the fun table last year because we could eat our decorations - lol) but with a group of folks representative of the library. Saturday night, I'll be getting all spiffed up and heading to the 10th Annual Starburst Spelling Bee. Let's hope the library group with me as an addition do well. I'll post pictures.

Writing Roads workshop
Saturday was my free workshop for the kids, held at the public library. I had four students show up and Ms. Heidi Ippolito helping me out. Two of the students were homeschoolers and two were from my small town, on a perchance meeting at the post office where I told the mother about the workshop and she had her son and his friend brought over for it (she had to attend graduation which was my unfortunate luck to schedule my workshop around the time of graduation). All in all, I think it went okay. I hope the kids had fun and that they took something away with them. One of the mothers did say she would be interested in having me come do a presentation for the co-op group, so that's a bonus - wooohooo. They also said they would be in Sumter in a couple of weekends looking for me - so I'm hoping they will tell others about me.
Ms. Heidi was gracious enough to take some pictures of the event. I have to remember that I do have video capability on the camera so the next time I can have someone record me so I can see what I've missed or forgotten and then work on improving. I'm in need of some more "geography games" I can use in the workshop - so if any of my readers have any ideas of new games that I can create or some old geography games that can be done in groups and are geared for ages 3rd grade up to 8th, please let me know. I'm open to all ideas.
I'm thinking of doing a half-day writing workshop in the fall after school starts back and hopefully I'll gain some interest from that as well.
Here are some pictures taken: This is the kids after they had won their prizes and we were wrapping up the session
Heidi was very sweet - even took me to her home and fed me lunch and had fixed a birthday cake. It was very nice and I had an enjoyable day, although none of my kids even bothered to contact me for my birthday. Oh well. I'm okay with everything else. See you all in the postings - Mrs. E :)

Can you use it in a sentence, please?
The 9th Annual Starburst Spelling Bee sponsored by the Friends of the Library will be held this weekend. It will be in the same format as the National Spelling Bee in that we can ask to use words in a sentence, the origin of the word, and a definition - lol.
The Foothills Writers Guild members were invited to participate in the Anderson County Library's 9th Annual Starbust Spelling Bee. A few of us responded and will be at the M&M's table (all things to do with the candies since the sponsor of the table loves M&Ms).
You are invited to come support the local library raise funds for the Starburst Storytellers festival, which over 2800 students in Anderson County benefitted from. This is sponsored by the Friends of the Library in cooperation with Anderson University.
WHAT: 9th Annual Starburst Spelling Bee
WHEN: Saturday, March 6, 2010
TIME: 6 p.m.
WHERE: Anderson County Library, main branch, 300 N. McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC
COST: $20 per person (gets you heavy hors d'oeuvres and desserts; helps support the Starburst Storytellers' Festival)
Come support your local authors, Ms. Elysabeth and others, and other friends of the library. See you there - Mrs. E :)
